Doorbell Repair
Dead and intermittent doorbells traced to the button, chime, transformer, or wire — and fixed there.
Services
A dead doorbell is a tiny system with exactly four suspects: the button, the chime, the transformer, or the wire between them. Twenty minutes with a meter finds the guilty one. And if you're headed to a video doorbell anyway, this is the same small circuit — done right, with the power it actually needs.
The approach
Diagnosis follows the current. The button dies most often — it lives outside in the weather and corrodes until pressing does nothing. The transformer, humming away forgotten near the furnace or panel, dies second-most and takes the whole system silent with it. Chimes gum up mechanically or fail electrically. Wire breaks are the rare one, usually at a staple or a remodel scar. Each has a distinct meter signature, which is why this is a find-it visit rather than a replace-everything visit.
Video doorbells turned this sleepy circuit into a power conversation. The original transformer that happily rang a mechanical chime for forty years often can't feed a camera, which produces the modern classics: 'wired' doorbells that still drain their batteries, night reboots, and interior chimes that went quiet the day the new doorbell arrived. The durable fix is a transformer with the VA rating the doorbell maker specifies — a modest part swapped at the source, which as a licensed contractor is a normal part of my install rather than a warning label I skip past.
Houses without any doorbell wiring get real options too. Battery-only video doorbells work but demand charging discipline; a new low-voltage run to the door restores the full-time-powered setup and is smaller work than people assume on most floor plans. And where a house has two doors and one chime, or a chime nobody hears from the basement, extra chimes and smart-speaker announcements finish the job the button starts.
