Smart Thermostat Installation

Services
A smart thermostat is one of the few upgrades that pays for itself — Denver's big daily temperature swings are exactly what scheduling and away-modes were built for. The install is simple right up until it isn't, and the moment it isn't usually involves a missing C-wire and a Saturday lost to YouTube.
The approach
The C-wire is the whole reason this page exists. Smart thermostats need constant power, and the common wire that supplies it is missing from a huge share of the metro's older heating systems — the previous thermostat ran on batteries and nobody needed it. The fixes range from an adapter that borrows a conductor, to repurposing a spare wire already in the wall, to running new thermostat cable to the furnace. I sort out which yours needs and do it, which is the difference between installed and installed correctly.
Compatibility deserves five minutes before purchase, not after. High-efficiency furnaces, heat pumps, dual-fuel setups, whole-house humidifiers, and multi-stage systems each constrain which thermostats work and how they wire. A thermostat mismatched to a heat pump can quietly run backup heat all winter — comfortable, and expensive. Tell me what equipment you have, or send a photo of the old thermostat's wiring, and I'll tell you what fits before you buy anything.
Placement is the quiet saboteur. A thermostat over a lamp, in afternoon sun, near a supply register, or on a poorly insulated exterior wall reads the wrong temperature all day and runs the system to match — the classic 'one room roasts, another freezes' complaint often starts here. Moving a thermostat to an honest wall is a modest wiring job, and where genuine room-by-room control is the real want, remote sensors on the newer smart models solve it well.
