Planet Improvement

Repair first. Replace only when it's actually warranted.

Most things people are told to replace can be fixed for a fraction of the price — cabinets that need hinges rather than gutting, a door that needs a longer hinge screw rather than a new slab. I use low-VOC products where the job allows, and I sort what comes out of your house for recycling instead of tipping all of it into a landfill.

Straight Answers

Including when the answer is 'you need less than you think'.

Plenty of jobs get quoted bigger than they need to be. If your cabinets just need new hinges rather than replacing, or a crack is cosmetic rather than structural, I'll tell you that before any money changes hands.

The guarantee

If it’s not right, I come back. Period.

There’s no dispatcher and no crew to blame. You dealt with me on the estimate and I did the work — so if something isn’t right afterward, you call the same number and I come back out. No runaround, no invoicing games, no ghosting.

Reviews

Real customers, real words

Word-for-word from Yelp, Thumbtack, and my own customers.

I have had Zack over to my home several times for all sorts of handy work. He is very knowledgeable and hard working. Zack is respectful, on time, and his work comes at a great value. It is a nice touch that he is always looking for ways to improve my home when he comes to do any job. His keen eye has helped me save a lot of money on potentially expensive and extensive repairs. I highly recommend Zack of All Trades!

We hired Zack to remodel our bathroom and it turned out perfect! He was upfront about pricing, stayed within budget, and kept us updated as the work progressed. Everything looks amazing!!!! Not to mention we saved so much money hiring Zack. We got 4 estimates from other companies that were outrageous. Highly recommend!!

Common questions

Answers before you ask

The questions Denver homeowners ask me most, answered up front.

Most handymen in the Denver metro run somewhere between $75 and $125 an hour, with a minimum visit charge. I quote the job rather than the hour wherever I can, so you know the number before I start rather than watching a clock. I don't charge for drive time and I don't mark up materials, which on a job with any real material cost makes a bigger difference than the hourly rate does.

Yes to both — licensed and insured in Colorado. I'm a licensed general contractor, which matters most on the bigger jobs: remodels, water heaters, new circuits, anything that involves a permit. You get one person carrying the license, the insurance, and the tools, instead of piecing a job together across three trades.

Usually within a few days for scheduled work, and often same-week. Evaporative cooler repairs during summer and emergency board-ups get prioritized — call early in the day for the best chance at same-day on those. Estimates are free, and for straightforward jobs I can often quote from photos without needing a visit first.

I work across Jefferson County, up the foothills corridor into Clear Creek County — my daily drive — and through the west and central Denver metro. The full list is on this page. What I don't cover is the far east and south side: Aurora and Parker are an hour fifteen each way, and that's a drive I can't do and still show up when I said I would. Since I don't charge drive time, distance affects scheduling rather than your bill.

Please do — it's faster for both of us. Text photos to the number on this site or attach them to the estimate form and I can often give you a real number without a site visit. For anything involving structure, water damage, or a big list, I'd rather come look, because quoting those from photos usually means a number that changes later.

Yes — I'm a licensed general contractor, so kitchen and bathroom remodels, moving plumbing, adding circuits, and permitted work are all on the table, not just the cosmetic refresh. I'll scope your project honestly and tell you which version your room actually needs. Sometimes the answer is that you need less than you thought — and when it's the full remodel, one person runs the whole job.
