Shower Door Installation & Repair in Lakewood, CO

A shower door is precision hardware in the wettest room of the house — and it shows its age in drips on the floor, a slider that grinds, or a hinge door that won't quite latch. Installation rewards patience and a level; repair is mostly knowing which small part gave up.

The approach

How I handle shower door installation & repair.

Installation is a plumb-and-level exercise in a room that has neither. Shower openings are rarely square — walls lean, curbs slope for drainage on purpose — and the installer's job is to hang a rigid rectangle in a space that isn't one, shimmed and adjusted until the door swings true and the gaps seal evenly. Anchoring matters just as much: frames want solid fastening through tile into backing, drilled carefully so the tile survives the process. Rushed anchoring is why doors sag out of alignment within a year.

Repair is underrated and usually cheap. Sliding doors ride on small rollers that wear flat and seize — new rollers and a cleaned track make a fifteen-year-old slider glide like new for hardware-store money. Swing doors droop at their hinges until they scrape or won't latch; adjustment or replacement hinges restore them. Sweeps and drip seals along the bottom edge harden with age and let water sheet onto the floor — the most common 'my shower door leaks' complaint, fixed with a strip of new vinyl.

Leak complaints deserve their own diagnosis, because the door is only sometimes the culprit. Water on the floor after a shower comes from a worn sweep, a gap at the frame's caulk line, or — the sneaky one — water escaping at the hinge-side gap because the door was hung with its gaps uneven. Sealing has a right pattern: caulk outside seams and specific inside points, but never the weep paths designed to drain the frame back into the shower. Caulking those shut turns the frame into a stagnant aquarium, which is its own smell-based discovery.
