My ice maker stopped making ice but the fridge works fine. Why?
Because the ice maker is nearly its own appliance — its water valve, fill tube, filter, and module can all fail while the fridge hums along happily. The most common culprits in order: a clogged filter, a scaled-up inlet valve, a frozen fill tube, or the module itself. Each is testable in minutes, and none means anything's wrong with the refrigerator around it.
Why are my ice cubes getting smaller and hollow?
That's a fill-volume symptom — the mold isn't getting enough water per cycle, so cubes freeze thin-walled and hollow. In this metro that's hard-water scale narrowing the inlet valve or an overdue filter nine times out of ten. It's also the early warning: small cubes now, no cubes in a few months. A valve and filter service catches it at the cheap stage.
Do you install ice makers too, or just repair them?
Both — repair lives on this page, and installation (adding an ice maker kit to a fridge, or running the water line a fridge never had) lives with my refrigerator and appliance installation work. The water line is the real job there: braided line off a proper valve, not a piercing saddle valve, which is the part that fails and floods. Either direction, it's one call.
Is a countertop or standalone ice maker worth fixing?
Sometimes — the pumps and valves in a standalone unit are repairable and cheaper than replacing a good machine. Small countertop units usually aren't; the whole sealed system is the machine. I'll tell you which yours is on the phone rather than charging you to find out.
