Dryer Vent Cleaning in Lakewood, CO

Clothes taking two cycles to dry is rarely the dryer — it's the vent. Lint builds in the duct year after year until airflow chokes, dry times double, and the heating element bakes itself. It's also the leading cause of dryer fires, which makes this the least glamorous, highest-value maintenance visit on this site.

The approach

How I handle dryer vent cleaning.

The failure is invisible until you know the signs. Lint accumulates on the duct walls with every load — longer runs, ceiling routes, and runs with multiple elbows collect fastest. As airflow drops, dry times stretch, the laundry room gets warm and humid, the dryer's top feels hot, and the outside flap barely flutters when the machine runs. By the time clothes need two full cycles, the duct is typically well on its way to blocked, the dryer is working double, and the heating element is running against restricted air — which is exactly the condition fire-statistics reports keep writing about.

A real cleaning does the whole run. The dryer pulls out; the transition hose gets cleaned and checked; a rotary brush works the full duct to the exterior while vacuum extraction pulls the lint out of the system rather than deeper into it; the exterior hood — where lint mats against the flap and birds discover a warm, fluffy nesting site — gets cleared and its damper verified. Airflow gets checked at the end because the point isn't 'lint came out,' it's 'the system breathes again,' and that's measurable.

Cleaning also finds what cleaning can't fix, and I'm the right person to find it: plastic flex duct that was never legal for the job, a crushed section behind the dryer, a run that dumps into a crawlspace instead of outdoors, a disconnected joint quietly humidifying a wall cavity. Those are repair and rerouting problems — they live on my separate dryer vent installation and repair page — and finding one during a cleaning means it gets fixed properly instead of hidden behind fresh airflow for a season.

What’s included

Every dryer vent cleaning project includes:

  • The full vent line cleaned, from the dryer connection to the exterior hood
  • Rotary brush and vacuum work — the lint comes out, not just loose bits
  • Transition hose behind the dryer cleaned and inspected
  • Exterior hood and flap cleared, checked, and closing properly against pests
  • Airflow measured before and after, so the difference is demonstrated, not claimed
  • Problems flagged honestly — crushed duct, bad materials, or a run that needs rework
