Siding & Exterior Trim Repair in Lakewood, CO

Most siding damage doesn't need a new wall — it needs the six bad boards replaced before the next storm drives water behind them. Localized repair is fast, far cheaper than replacement, and done right it disappears into the wall. The trick is doing it before the water does its quiet work.

The approach

How I handle siding & exterior trim repair.

Speed matters with siding damage in a way people underestimate. A cracked panel or a popped board is cosmetic for exactly as long as it doesn't rain. After that, water is behind the siding, and the damage moves from the surface you can see to the sheathing you can't. The repair that costs little this month costs multiples next spring. That's the whole argument for fixing the six bad boards promptly instead of saving up for the someday-wall.

Woodpeckers deserve their own mention along the foothills. They hammer siding — especially cedar and other soft woods — hunting insects and drumming for territory, and they come back to the same spots. I repair the holes properly, but I'll also tell you what the holes mean: sometimes they're advertising an insect problem in the wall that's worth knowing about, and repairs last longer when the reason for the excavation is dealt with too.

Exterior trim rots first because it takes the water the siding sheds. Window sills, door surrounds, corner boards, and the trim under rooflines fail years before wall siding does, and rot spreads along them invisibly behind paint. I cut back to sound wood — no filler over mush — and where a piece is beyond saving, rebuild it, with modern rot-resistant material where it'll never be noticed. Generic caulk-and-paint over rot is the repair you pay for twice.
