Mailbox Installation & Repair in Lakewood, CO

A mailbox is a tiny building at the curb, and the curb is a hostile place — plows, baseball bats of winter ice, soil that heaves, and the occasional reversing SUV. Whether yours is leaning, headless, or simply embarrassing, this is quick work with postal rules attached.

The approach

How I handle mailbox installation & repair.

There's an actual spec: carriers expect the box floor around forty-one to forty-five inches above the road and the door six to eight inches back from the curb line, and a box that drifts far enough out of spec can genuinely interrupt delivery. Posts get set plumb, in concrete, deep enough that frost heave doesn't tilt them into next spring — the shallow-set post that leans a little more each March is the most common patient here.

Winter is the mailbox's predator, and placement is the defense. Most 'plow damage' isn't the blade — it's the heavy wet snow rolling off it, which hits like a wave. A post at proper setback with a swing-away or sacrificial arm design survives what a rigidly-planted decorative post won't. I rebuild the casualties every spring; building them the smarter way the first time is cheaper than the annual ritual.

Masonry mailbox columns are small masonry jobs with the same rules as big ones: caps work loose, joints powder with freeze-thaw, and a car-clipped corner sheds bricks. Repointing, recapping, and rebuilding damaged sections use the same matched-mortar care as my brick and stone repair work — a column repaired with mismatched gray stripes announces itself to the whole street. And when a column's inner box rusts out, replacement inserts retrofit cleanly without disturbing the brick around them.

What’s included

  • Brick and stone mailbox columns repointed, recapped, and repaired
