Either. Plenty of installs run on the family's own strings — I'll test them first, because finding the dead half-strand at ground level beats finding it from the roof. If you're buying new, I'll steer you toward commercial-grade LED strings: they're brighter, cold-hardy, repairable at the socket level, and they'll outlive several seasons of the big-box variety. Supplied lights get passed through at cost, like all my materials.

Early — the calendar between Halloween and mid-December fills in that order, and the best dates go to October callers. An early install doesn't mean an early glow: lights can hang dark until whatever date your household's treaty specifies. Takedown gets scheduled at install time too, which is exactly why my clients' lights actually come down in January.

Not the way I hang them — that's the point of clips. Purpose-made plastic clips grip the shingle edge or gutter lip without a single hole, and they release cleanly at takedown. The damage stories all start with staples, nails, and screws, which is why none of those ride in my ladder bag. Wind-rated spacing keeps the run intact through chinook season, which protects both the lights and whatever they're attached to.

Takedown is a separate visit and I'll quote both up front so there's no January surprise. I'll also store them labelled by run if you want, which makes next year's install faster and cheaper.
